Agora   in ancient cities – this is the square on which the market was located. Also, people of art and philosophers, as well as common people, gathered on the agora to communicate and solve important issues.

The Izmir agora, located in the Namazgah quarter, was built during the time of the Romans. It is considered the best-preserved and largest of the agora of Jonah.

The agora was founded in the 2nd century BC, during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. On the territory of the site measuring 120 by 80 meters   there are capitals, Corinthian columns, the remains of gates and statues of Diana, Ceres and Neptune.

The first excavations of the city agora were carried out in 1932-1941. It was found that a structure three stories high was built around the wide open courtyard, which was put on columns.

New excavations began only on August 5, 1996.

The main achievement of archaeologists – this is the discovery of the northern entrance to the square. The relief of Vesta was found here, which is a continuation of the relief on the altar depicting Zeus. Statues of such gods as Hermes, Dionysus, Eros and Hercules, as well as sculptures of animals and people were also found here.
