Borjomi

Borjomi is located in the southern Georgian region of Samtskhe-Javakheti, in its northern part. In fact, the city is located in the gorge of the Kure River, it is surrounded by rather high ridges of Trialeti and Meskheti.

Despite its high mountain position and elevation above sea level of 850 meters, Borjomi is considered a medium-high resort. It is surrounded by dense deciduous and coniferous forests, and the isolation of the air masses creates a unique atmosphere saturated with healing elements.

The population of Borjomi, according to the latest census data, is about 8   600 people, the ethnic majority, like everywhere else – Georgians, although there are also other ethnic groups. Interestingly, for most of the population, Russian – the second native language, although most of the signs here are written in Georgian.

You can get to Borjomi only by land and only from Tbilisi. Regular trains and intercity buses run from the Georgian capital to the resort. Tickets can be booked online so that you do not have to stand in long queues at the railway ticket offices.

Distance from Tbilisi is 160 kilometers, both by rail and by motorway. Taking into account the terrain, public transport overcomes this path in 3-3.5 hours.

IMPORTANT: If you decide to go to Borjomi on your own in a rented car, remember – the road to the resort has very difficult and sometimes dangerous sections. Alpine slopes have many steep descents and turns, where you can become the culprit of serious accidents.

Borjomi climatic zone – it is a low-mountain type of subtropics. The closed air flow system creates relatively mild weather conditions throughout the year. Unlike other mountain resorts, there are no severe frosts in winter, and summers are warm and humid.
