Rating: 7,5/10 (581 votes)  Kakheti is located in the south-east of modern Georgia, uniting three historical regions – Kukheti, Kakheti and Gardabani. The natural borders of the region in the west are the channels of the Iora and Alazan rivers, the eastern border separates Kakheti from Azerbaijan. Kakheti The population of Kakheti, according to the latest data, is 420 000 people, with up to 70% of them – these are the villagers. The main ethnic group – Kakhetians, most often belonging to the subgroup of Georgians, but at the same time having their own dialect, sometimes called the Kakhetian language. The rest of the population – motley ethnic composition of the descendants of the ancient mountain tribes, including migrants from Iran. The landscape of Kakheti is heterogeneous. The steppe plain areas here smoothly flow into the volcanic foothills and mountainous regions. According to the censuses, up to 45% of the population lives in mountainous areas on a permanent basis. You can get to Kakheti only by land. Trains do not run here, although the railway line is officially launched to the capital of the region – Telavi. Currently, due to difficulties with financing, it is used extremely rarely, therefore the only stable transport is – these are buses. IMPORTANT: The travel time of a bus from Tbilisi to Kakheti is 2.5 hours. But, going to this region, you need to be aware of the unpredictability of local transport. Sometimes the waiting time for a bus exceeds several hours. The climate in Kakheti belongs to the humid subtropical zone.
