Dragon Fountain (Lindwurm) in Austria, Klagenfurt resort
Rating: 8,6/10 (7384 votes)  The Dragon Fountain is the most famous fountain in Klagenfurt and the symbol of the city. It is located on New Square in the city center. The composition of the fountain consists of two parts: a dragon with an open mouth, from which water flows, and a hero with a club standing behind the back of a mystical animal. The fountain is not only a symbol of the city, but also a reminder of an ancient legend. Among local residents, this legend exists in two versions. The first legend says that a dragon lived in Lake Worthersee, located near the city, which constantly attacked nearby villages. Everyone in the area was afraid of him, and only one of the duke's servants decided to go and kill the monster. The second legend says that in the place where Klagenfurt is located today, once there was a swamp that was home to a dragon. He constantly terrorized the surrounding area, at some point a small group of residents jointly killed him. A city was founded on the site of the swamp.
