The University Botanical Garden is a botanical garden located on the shores of Lake Kuivasjarvi in the northern part of Oulu. It is the scientific base of the Faculty of Biology of the City University of Oulu. A wide variety of plants are grown here, including exotic ones, thanks to the established exchange between the universities of Western Europe, Russia, the USA and Canada.

Two huge greenhouses of the botanical garden, built of glass in the form of pyramids, shelter heat-loving plants growing from the equator to the subtropics. These greenhouses are named Romeo and Juliet. Their unique   the design allows plants of different heights to comfortably coexist without interfering with each other. The climatic conditions in greenhouses are maintained automatically.

In the Romeo greenhouse, reaching 16 meters in height, trees grow from humid subtropics, in particular, banana and coconut palms, coffee and cocoa trees, lianas, vines, epiphytes. In Juliet, 14 meters high, Mediterranean olive, citrus and myrtle trees, exotic pineapples grow. Among the neat lawns and winding paths, you can find living stones - lithops. It is also home to giant sequoias, decorative cedars, New Zealand ferns and orchids. In total, over a thousand different plant species grow in greenhouses.

The greenhouses of the botanical garden are surrounded by an arboretum, where trees and shrubs live in natural conditions, combined into groups based on geographical origin: Asian, European, Eurasian and American. These are theme parks with over 4,000 plants.
