There are several halls in the building, especially notable among which are the Oval Concert Hall with a capacity of 2000 people and the Ballroom. The Town Hall is located in the central square of Barker Poole, with the War Memorial nearby.
The town hall building was designed by the architect Emmanuel Vincent Harris in 1920 and only built in 1932. During the Second World War, the town hall suffered from bombing: the columns of the town hall were damaged. The traces of the explosion can still be seen on the walls and columns.
In 2005, large-scale restoration work was carried out at the City Hall, which also affected numerous annexes.
