Regional Museum (Vorarlberger Landesmuseum) in Austria, Bregenz spa
Rating: 8,5/10 (1529 votes)  The Bregenz Museum of Local Lore, located on Kornmarkt Square, is one of the most interesting in the city. The museum is housed in a neoclassical building. Museum exhibits will tell about the unique cultural and historical development of these lands, from the Stone Age to our time. The museum was founded in 1857, after which it became a center for the storage of archaeological, folklore, natural, ethnographic and historical items found in the city and beyond. The rich collection of the museum will acquaint with the history of the dwelling, painting and crafts of people who lived at different times. The exhibition displays unique materials, discovered during archaeological excavations – ceramics (Bronze Age), unique finds from the Roman period, and a harpoon (Stone Age). The collection of swords also deserves attention. The exhibition"Historical Traditions" you can see exquisite costumes, cult objects, original folklore and tools. One of the halls contains a collection of works by local craftsmen: paintings by romantic artists and magnificent paintings by masters. Currently, the building is undergoing reconstruction. The museum is scheduled to open in 2013.
