It was built in 1652 as the summer residence of Count Johann von Rosenberg. Initially, the castle itself, gatehouse buildings, chapels were created in the Renaissance style. The beautiful castle ensemble was complemented by luxurious Italian courtyards with a lot of sculptures, luxurious gardens and stairs that led down to the shores of Lake Worthersee. In 1708, the castle was destroyed by a strong fire. After that, the palace repeatedly changed its owners, until in 2002 it was bought by the city authorities of Klagenfurt. From that moment, restoration work began. Today the two-storey, rectangular building of the castle, the vaulted chapel of St. Madonna of Lorreto has been completely restored. The chapel contains paintings and icons of the 17th-18th centuries, as well as the statue of Madonna Loretto and fragments of the old altar. Gradually, the entire territory of the castle is put in order. Already today, large-scale events are held here, the Catholic chapel is a popular place for weddings and family celebrations.
