Pre-Romanesque churches in Oviedo are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Among them, Santa Maria del Naranco, the former summer residence of Ramiro I, stands out.

This temple is one of the best examples of the Asturian style, which is distinguished by graceful ornamentation and slender proportions. The church is notable for its interior space, huge vaults, and arched galleries that let in streams of light.

The second church to pay attention to is San Miguel de Liglio. According to some versions, it used to belong to the palace ensemble. The church portal is decorated with images, among which you can see an animal tamer and an acrobat.

A little northeast of Oviedo is San Julian – de los Prados, built in the 9th century. It is the largest pre-Romanesque temple. The walls of this church were once decorated with frescoes.
