This square is located in the city's historic district. There are two important historical buildings on it – Church of St. Isidore and the City Hall, built in the 18th century.

The Church of San Isidore is located at a distance of 400 meters   southwest of the city's Cathedral. Initially, the church was part of a school belonging to the Jesuit order of St. Matthew. The school was founded by the order of the archbishop of the city, Martin Carillo, who, incidentally, is buried in this church.

The school was built in the 17th century for almost a hundred years. Several architects supervised the project. The school opened in 1681, but was demolished in 1873, leaving only the church from the building.
