Ark-e-Senan – this is a whole architectural ensemble near the city of Besancon.

The history of these buildings is very interesting. From 1770 to 1780 in France there was a very specific state monopoly on the production of salt. And at the expense of the same monopoly, the salt works was built.

The buildings are located in the shape of a crescent and represent several buildings in the Empire style. The Great Revolution that happened a decade later did not allow the architectural concept to be fully realized. However, UNESCO included the unfinished complex in its World Heritage List.

The main building of the saltworks has not functioned since the late 19th century.
