Royal Salt Works in Arc-et-Senan, France
Rating: 7,7/10 (1512 votes)  Ark-e-Senan – this is a whole architectural ensemble near the city of Besancon. The history of these buildings is very interesting. From 1770 to 1780 in France there was a very specific state monopoly on the production of salt. And at the expense of the same monopoly, the salt works was built. The buildings are located in the shape of a crescent and represent several buildings in the Empire style. The Great Revolution that happened a decade later did not allow the architectural concept to be fully realized. However, UNESCO included the unfinished complex in its World Heritage List.
