Hotel Handelshof in Germany, Essen Resort
Rating: 8,6/10 (6432 votes)  The Handelshof Hotel, located in the central part of Essen, is one of the oldest hotels in the city. The hotel is a six-story reinforced concrete building, built at the beginning of the 20th century. During the Middle Ages, this site was the site of the Kettwiger city gate, which was demolished at the end of the 19th century. Later, the Zum Adler hotel was built here, and the Bachstra & szlig; e street passed nearby. In 1911-1912 the architects Werner Stahl and Karl Moritz erected several retail buildings in the area. The new hotel was opened in 1913. By that time, in addition to the hotel, the building housed two restaurants, a pastry shop, a cafe, a cinema, as well as office space and several shops. In 1913, the hotel was bought by the parents of Heinz Ryumann, a future famous film director and actor. In 1929, a fire broke out in the building, after which the hotel was completely restored. During the Second World War, the hotel was seriously damaged, but was soon completely restored. In 1952, the hotel reopened its doors to guests of the city. Since 1983 the hotel has been part of the M & ouml; venpick hotel and restaurant.
