Cave of Saturn in Cuba, Matanzas Resort
Rating: 8,3/10 (6039 votes)  The Cave of Saturn is located in close proximity to the largest Cuban resort town of Varadero. It is excluded from a number of similar karst caves by the feature of – the presence of a cave lake with a depth of about 70 meters, which is the best suited for diving. Tourists have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the life of amazing creatures – blind fish, – such diving cannot be compared to traditional diving. The cave itself is not very large (its length reaches only 20 meters) and not deep; due to this, it is partially illuminated by sunlight, which creates an extraordinary, magical atmosphere. Of course, there are also traditional objects of interest for cavers in the cave of Saturn: stalactites, stalagmites and various crystals. Scientists have long noticed the interesting microclimate of the cave: it is filled with both salt and fresh waters. During the Cuban War of Independence, the Saturn Cave was the center of emergency medical care organized by General Oscar Marie de Rojas, and earlier, at the end of the 19th century, fugitive slaves were rescued there. And only today this unique cave has become the object of close attention of tourists and amateur cavers.
