Ambrosio Cave is located on the Icacos peninsula of the Matanzas province, in the city of Varadero. This cave is famous for its rock paintings, which are about three thousand years old. They were discovered in 1961. During colonization, the cave was a refuge for escaped slaves who performed their pagan rituals here, which is reflected in the rock art. Also, scientists have found among the numerous patterns 72 Indian drawings that recreate the modern solar calendar. The cave is not made by hands, it was formed as a result of the movement of underwater waters, which washed niches in the rock. In some places, vegetation is visible. The cave also has its own inhabitants – harmless bats; and a newly discovered species of gecko, listed in 2009. The depth of the Ambrosio Cave reaches about 300 meters,
