The Astronomical Clock inside the Strasbourg Cathedral is rightfully one of the wonders of the Renaissance. Many craftsmen, including renowned mathematicians, engineers and watchmakers, worked to bring this ingenious idea to life.

The original Cathedral clock, created in 1354, was a unique design for that time. In addition to the already ubiquitous clockwork, they contained a calendar, moving figures that moved out every hour. In addition to the traditional battle, every hour a musical accompaniment that had no analogues in the world was turned on. In this form, the clock existed until 1530, when it suddenly stopped and could not be repaired. The mechanism of the moving figures was disassembled and transported to one of the German museums, where it is kept to this day.

For several centuries the watch was altered, the mechanism was improved and supplemented. The type of clock that can be seen today appeared in 1842. At the same time, a model of the solar system was added to the clock, moving exactly at the speed of the stars.
