After the walls of the city were destroyed by the Spaniards in 1554, the gate was rebuilt and began to be used as an entrance to the Fatimid palace. The black gate is a 21-meter corridor through which you will get to Cairo Square. In ancient times, in the tunnel of the gate there were 6 gratings equipped with a lifting mechanism and a massive forged gate. Today the city market is located in the tunnel of the gate.
