Grimaldi Castle and Picasso Museum. Grimaldi Castle was built in the XII century on the site of ancient Roman fortifications. In the Middle Ages, the bishop's residence was located here. From the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 17th century, the castle was owned by the noble Grimaldi family, which gradually expanded the size of the castle. In 1925, when the castle was already destroyed by time, an auction was held at which the castle was bought by the municipality of Antibes.

The municipality turned the castle into a museum and its further history is associated with the name of the artist Pablo Picasso ... In 1946, the artist was looking for a room suitable for work, spacious and bright. The city authorities offered him the Grimaldi Castle, and Picasso worked there for six months. In gratitude for the hospitality, the artist presented the city with the painting `` Fishing at night in Antibes', many of his own sketches, prints, lithographs and drawings. This became the basis for the creation of the museum. The collection of the Picasso Museum contains works by Modigliani, Leger, Picabia, and some archaeological finds. On the terrace next to the museum are sculptures by Miro, Ricier, Armand, Pages.
