Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes) Palais des Beaux Arts is a magnificent 19th century palace in Lille, second only to the Parisian Louvre in grandeur. The palace houses a museum with an excellent collection of European art. It is noteworthy that all the exhibits were collected as a result of the marauding of Napoleon's army. There are paintings by Rembrandt and Rubens, Monet and Renoir. In the basements of the palace there is an exhibition of architectural models of buildings from the time of Louis IV, created by Vauban, the famous architect. Painting by Monet and Renoir has been assigned to whole galleries. Also, a separate gallery is devoted to the history of the development of sculpture in France (from Houdon to Bourdeille). The palace constantly attracts residents and visitors of the city and is open to visitors.
