At the beginning of the 19th century, the Basilica of St. Eberhard was moved to the central part of Stuttgart from the Solitude castle complex. The author of the project was the architect N. von Toureth. During the period The building was badly damaged during World War II, but was soon rebuilt. The church was converted into a cathedral in 1978.
