The Grand Ducal Palace is one of the most interesting buildings in Karlsruhe. The palace is located on the Kriegstrasse. The palace was erected in 1891-1897 for the crown prince, who later became Grand Duke Frederick II of Baden, and his wife Hilda of Luxembourg. The building currently houses the German Supreme Court. The palace garden deserves special attention. Over the course of 140 years, the garden has changed a lot. At the end of the 19th century, reconstruction works were carried out on the southern side of the palace complex, during which the garden was expanded and decorated in a new way. The construction work was supervised by Josef Durm. The centerpiece of the garden was surrounded by a terrace that led to a pool with a fountain. The fountain was decorated with a sculpture of Galatea by Carl Friedrich Moest. We also recommend reading Castle Guestrow in Germany Topic: Grand Ducal Palace in Germany, Karlsruhe Spa. |
