The stadium got its name in honor of Giuseppe Meazza – two-time world champion. The stadium was originally called San Siro; in honor of the suburb in which it was located, and was the home stadium of Milan. This club was founded by Alfred Edwards in 1899. In the 1920s, the old stadium became cramped for Milan, and thus Piero Pirelli – the then president of the club, bought land to build a new stadium. The stadium was opened in 1926. The stadium was soon bought by the local council and subsequently expanded. In 1947, the old stadium, Inter. became too small for the club, so it was proposed to move to the San Siro stadium, which was met with great approval. For this, the stadium was expanded and reopened in 1955. In 1979, the stadium acquired its current name. Today, the stadium houses a hippodrome. In addition to football matches, musical concerts are held at the stadium. Madonna, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Laura Pausini, Robbie Williams, Depeche Mode, The Rolling Stones, etc. performed here.
