Fountain of the Madonna of Verona in Italy, resort of Verona
Rating: 8,1/10 (1053 votes)  The Madonna Fountain is located in the heart of Piazza del Erbe. Nowadays, the fountain is an excellent architectural monument of the XIV century. The fountain was erected during the renovation of the city water supply systems in 1368. The construction was carried out at the request of Cansignorioga della Scala. In the distant past, near the fountain, merchants entered into lucrative deals. Today, tourists visiting Verona throw a coin into the fountain, which, according to legend, will bring good luck in business. The fountain is a true gothic masterpiece of the Scaliger era. An interesting fact is that the sculpture used for the image of the Virgin is a Roman statue dating from the year 380. Madonna stands on a pedestal decorated with masses from which thin streams of water flow. The Madonna is holding an unrolled scroll with the coat of arms of Verona. The Fountain of the Madonna of Verona, along with other landmarks of Verona, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
