The Lyon Historical Museum is housed in a low 16th century brick building. This building was originally a hotel for merchants who came to Lyon. but later it began to deteriorate and was closed until the years of the Great Revolution. From the end of the 18th century, it was decided to open the Historical Museum of Lyon in order to reflect the development of the city from the Middle Ages to the last years. The museum was developing, its exposition was constantly expanding, including the time frame. Today, the time frame reflected in the exhibition ends in the 19th century. Here you can see household items of townspeople, dishes, any clothing options sorted by centuries. A separate hall of the museum is dedicated to the image of panoramas and streets of the city, from medieval engravings to the rarest photographs of the 19th century. In the 20th century, a small extension, also made of red brick, appeared on the territory next to the museum. Another museum was placed inside the building – museum of puppets. It displays dolls and reflects the centuries-old history of puppet theaters.
