In 1868, a competition was announced for the design of the New Town Hall. The competition was won by a project by Friedrich von Schmidt. The new building was built in 1872-1883. Externally, the building of the town hall looks in the Flemish Gothic style, and the internal layout is made according to all the rules of the Baroque style. The building contains a large number of halls and seven courtyards. The Arcade Courtyard is the largest venue for concerts at the Vienna Summer Music Festival. The two-story meeting room of the Community Council makes a special impression from the halls. In the premises of the town hall, approximately 800 events are held every year.
