The Egyptian Museum, located in the city of Turin, is the first museum in the world fully dedicated to the civilization of Ancient Egypt.

The history of the museum collection dates back to 1730, when a tablet from the temple of Isis fell into the hands of the Sardinian king Charles Emmanuel III. After that, the king sent the botanist Vitaliano Donati in search of Egyptian antiquities.

In 1824, the historian Champollion was able to decipher the hieroglyphs, after which a wave of Egyptomania spread across Europe. King Carl Felix bought the collection of Bernardino Drovetti for the museum.

In the 19th century, the museum was replenished with the collections of Ernesto Schiaparelli. The last significant addition to the collection was the temple, which was taken out of Nubia during the construction of the Aswan Dam.

Today, the Egyptian Museum is one of the most visited in the city. In 2004, the city government donated the museum to a dedicated private foundation as an experiment.
