The Archaeological Museum of Siena is one of the most popular in the city.

All museum exhibits are divided into sections and grouped according to the place of excavation or location.

In the Prehistoric Section, visitors are presented with finds dating from the Paleolithic to the Iron Age. Here you can observe kitchen utensils, vases, crafts, fossilized plants, bones found in Cetona, Pitigliano and the caves of Mount Amiata.

The Topographic section contains objects found in the Chiusi area: bronze objects, clay vases, stone tools, canopes, urns, terracotta, etc. Also of interest are finds, found in the territories of Monteriggioni, Chianciano, Sferracavalli and Val d'Elsa.

The sarcophagi deserve special attention, the most interesting of which is the sarcophagus `` Muse Chigi '', found in the Villa Chigi, nearby from Siena.

The museum also contains exhibits related to the ancient Romans and Etruscans. It is worth highlighting the Head of Seneca, and a valuable amphora dating from the 4th century BC.

The Numismatic collection is also interesting, including coins from different eras, found in various parts of the country, including the region Umbria, Marche and Lazio.
