The building was designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano and opened in 1999. This is one of the largest theaters in Berlin, with a capacity of 1800 people. The stage of the Musical Theater hosted the following productions: the musical Notre Dame Ringer, running until 2002; 'Cats' L. Weber; performance with drumsticks 'Blue Man Group' in May 2004; Beauty and the Beast in 2007; premiere screening of the musical 'Mamma Mia!'. Since 2000, the Berlin Film Festival has traditionally been held here (every February).
