Berlin Philharmonic – the most famous concert hall in Berlin. Like many other attractions in Berlin, it is located in the Tiergarten district. Part of the Kulturforum.
The Philharmonic was built in 1960-1963 for the Berlin Philharmonic. The building was designed by the architect Hans Bernhard Scharoun. The grand opening of the Philharmonic took place in October 1963.
The Philharmonic became the first building of the Kulturforum project. By 1987, the Chamber Music Hall, designed by Edgar Visnievski, had grown up next to it. Nearby are Potsdamer Platz, the New National Library and the State Library, built according to Scharun's designs.
The Philharmonic building attracts the eye from afar. The concrete walls are asymmetrical and decorated with golden elements. Externally, the building resembles a multi-colored tent of a circus tent, in connection with which it was given the nickname `` Karayan's Circus ''. Philharmonic Hall (Great Hall) – the largest concert hall in Berlin. Capacity pentagonal hall – 2440 people. The interior decoration of the hall is also unusual: the stage is in the center of the auditorium, boxes are at different levels and surround the stage. The walls and ceiling are covered with soft upholstery, due to which the hall has excellent acoustics.
