Berlin State Opera is one of the oldest and largest musical theaters in Germany. Founded in 1742 as the Royal Court Opera by Frederick II, the opera is located on Unter den Linden Street. In 1928 the opera building was reconstructed. During the Second World War, the building was destroyed twice (in 1941 and 1944). Each time it was restored (1942 and 1955). After a new restoration, the theater was opened with Wagner's opera"The Meistersingers of Nuremberg". The theater troupe performed on tour even in the USSR, for the first time in 1969. Since 1992, the opera has been directed by Daniel Barenboim, a renowned conductor.
