Potsdamer Platz – central square in the Tiergarten district of Berlin. Previously, this square was the location of the Potsdam Gate. It is also noteworthy that it was here that the first traffic light in Europe settled. It was acquired in New York in 1924. Some are sure that the first electric torch also appeared here.

On Potsdamer Platz before World War II, government offices and entertainment establishments were located. The square was also a major transport hub, from where the first train to Potsdam departed almost two centuries ago. The square expanded over the years and eventually merged with Leipzig Square, which stretches to the east.

Many buildings were damaged in the battle for Berlin. After the war, they were slightly restored, but after the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, they were completely demolished. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the cult band Pink Floyd performed here with The Wall concert. Today, the square is dominated by multi-storey office buildings, in particular. Buildings owned by Sony, ABB, Debis and others. Several elements of the Berlin Wall, which form the Berlin Wall Memorial, are also preserved in the square.
