The medina of the city of Hammamet was created in the 15th century so that local residents could live in peace and safety and conduct trade. Despite its centuries-old age, the medina is in fairly good condition, although it should be noted that many streets have not retained their authentic atmosphere, as there are numerous souvenir shops.
If you walk along the southern residential area of the medina, you can feel the breath of antiquity, as the tourist infrastructure is less developed here.
In general, the medina looks like a quadrangular structure of about 300 by 100 meters, where in the western part is located Kasbah signal tower and the oldest oriental bazaar.
