Amalienburg Castle is located opposite the Swiss Gate. It was built in 1575-1611 in the early Baroque style, in the 17th century the upper floor was completed. The castle consists of four buildings that frame a courtyard. The castle is also called the castle of Amalia, in honor of the widow of Joseph I Amalia Wilhelmina of Braunschweig-Luneburg.

The facade of the palace is decorated with a unique clock: below it is solar, and above it is ordinary.

Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria lived in this palace in the 19th century, and during the Vienna Congress, Russian Tsar Alexander I stayed here. Today the rooms where Alexander I and Elizabeth lived are open for tourists.
