For a long time, the Opera was a meeting place for lovers of theater music, performances, songs, opera and symphonies. Since its opening, the Opera has been one of the largest operas in Vietnam. Construction of the building began in 1901 and finished in 1911. Previously, there was a large pond on the site of the Opera. During the construction, the workers faced many difficulties – the foundation of the building had to be erected on shaky ground. Before the foundation was laid, the pond was drained, and 30,000 bamboo posts were installed. The architectural style of the building is similar to that of the Parisian opera.
