It is under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Its construction began in June 1899. The author of the idea was Archpriest Vladimir Levitsky and emigrants of Russian origin. The construction was carried out according to the project of MT Preobrazhensky. The basis of the building style was the Moscow-Yaroslavl architecture of the 17th century model, the time of the highest heyday of Russian temple culture. The church is a two-storey building with a high porch, the center of which ends with a pavement with kokoshniks and a traditional five-domed dome. The upper church of the Nativity was painted by M. N. Vasiliev, P. S. Sharvorok, D. I. Kiplik. and A.P. Blaznov. All the images of the iconostasis were made by Academician A. N. Novoskoltsev. The church is divided into lower and upper churches. The lower church was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in October 1902, while the upper one – in October 1903 in the name of the Nativity of Christ. The Russian Church stopped supporting the parish after the revolution that took place in 1917, and in 1921 the parish gained independence, despite the attempts of Soviet diplomats take over the rights to the temple. The parish came under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1924. In 1925-1936, the church served as the burial place of some members of the Greek royal family. King Constantine I, Queen Olga and Queen Sofia were buried here.
