According to one version, the order for the construction of the aqueduct was given by the legendary statesman of Rome, Mark Agrippa, according to another – technologies for the production of materials for construction appeared only a century later. The Pont du Gard regularly performed its functions until the fall of the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, it was used as a bridge for transporting goods, but soon the building began to collapse and further movement created the threat of complete destruction.
