Aqua Claudia is an ancient Roman aqueduct built in the 1st century AD

The construction of the aqueduct was started in 38 AD by order of the Emperor Caligula, and ended in 52 under the emperor Claudius. At the end of the construction, the aqueduct was actively used for 10 years, but was soon abandoned. In 71, under Emperor Vespasian, the aqueduct began to function again. During the reign of Emperor Titus, the aqueduct was restored.

The monumental arch, which was part of the aqueducts of Anio Novus and Claudius, was turned into the gate of the Aurelian wall. Most of the aqueduct runs underground.
