Kettwig railway bridge in Germany, Essen resort

The Kettwig Bridge, located in the Kettwige district of Essen, is a steel railroad bridge over the Ruhr River, built from girder trusses. Nowadays, the bridge is the thematic point `` The Way of Industrial Culture '' Ruhr area.

The bridge was first mentioned in documents from 1282. For 400 years, the bridge has been a convenient connection. During the Thirty Years War, fierce battles were often fought on the bridges. Over time, the bridge fell into disrepair and collapsed.

In 1869, the construction of the Dusseldorf Bridge began in the Kettwig region, which was completed in 1871. Upon completion of the construction, tests of the structure began, which were completed in 1872.

During the Second World War, both bridges were Wehrmacht troops during their retreat. At the end of the war, railway traffic was restored, however, only to the banks of the Ruhr.

In 1948, both bridges were dismantled. The Dusseldorf Bridge was rebuilt and commissioned in 1951.

ImageImageImage In the 1870s, next to the new bridge, construction began on another bridge, later called the Mulheim Bridge. Reconstruction of both bridges was carried out in 1926.
