City gate in Croatia, Trogir resort
Rating: 8,6/10 (7754 votes)  In the 15th century, the city wall was built, after which the city gate became the main entrance to Trogir. They were rebuilt in the late Renaissance style in the 17th century. They are built on the basis of an elevated portal of dull stone, in which there are recesses to support a drawbridge. Above the door arch on the cornice is the Lion of St. Mark, which is the symbol of Venice, and just above, on The pedestal is dominated by the statue of St. John of Trogir (patron saint of the city), who served as bishop in the 12th century. The city gate as a building in the historical center of Trogir is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
