One side overlooks the sea, while the other three protect the fortification from the mainland. St. Mark's Tower was erected a little later than the fortress, and is connected to it. It has a round shape. Artillery was installed on its top. Its main function was to protect the channel between the mainland and the island. In summer, theatrical performances and open-air concerts are held in the inner courtyard of the fortress.
