ImageThe Palace of King Nikola I is a modest small building that houses the National Museum of Montenegro.
The palace was built during the heyday of art and culture in Montenegro, after the conclusion of peace with Turkey in 1892. The construction of the palace lasted from 1863 to 1867. Initially, it looked like a simple two-story building, with a terrace under the roof on the second floor. In 1871, two wings were added to the building, and on the fiftieth anniversary of the reign of Nicholas I, in 1910, the palace acquired the form in which we see it now.
The furnishings of the palace exactly copy the original interior that meets all the requirements of the royal family and its guests. The design of the palace is made in the Art Nouveau style, which is characterized by a mass of decorative details, floral patterns, complex forms in decoration.
The palace walls are covered with silk fabric and decorated with paintings in gilded frames. The parquet floors are carpeted and the ceilings are decorated with stucco.
The Museum of King Nicholas I presents several collections:
  •   Old weapons - Colts, Nagans , the handles of which are decorated with turquoise, pearls and enamel.
  •   Flags and banners. The flag collection includes 44 Turkish flags dating back to the end of the 18th century, including religious (green) and military (red) flags. All of them were acquired by the Montenegrins during the war. Montenegrin military banners of the late 19th century are also displayed here. By the symbols depicted on the flags, one can determine belonging to a particular era.
  • Collection of military orders, which are made of precious stones and gold in the best jewelry houses in Rome, Vienna and Paris.

Household items are also museum expositions. There is a library in the palace that occupies four rooms, where there are about 10,000 rare books.
