Rating: 8,4/10 (801 votes) Officially, this theater is called the Philharmonic Drama Lyceum of Barcelona, Her Majesty Queen Isabella. It is the largest opera house in all of Spain, as well as the second largest in all of Europe after the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The construction of this theater was completed by 1844, and the grand opening took place in 1848 year. The rather simple facade of the building hides a 19th century wall, a luxurious hall and frescoes on the ceiling, which are made in the New Pompeian style. Many lodges in the theater are private, so the number of tickets is always limited. It was within the walls of this theater that the careers of such singers as Jose Carreras, Montserrat Caballe, Victoria de Los Angeles and others began. The building of the opera house was restored after a fire that destroyed it in 1862. The theater hosts at least one Spanish opera throughout the year. And from November to March, troupes from Russia, Italy, Germany and France come to this theater on tour.
