Photo and descriptionThe Royal Opera House in Madrid, rightly considered one of the main attractions of the Spanish capital, is located on East Square, opposite the Royal Palace. The performances of the opera house constantly gather full halls of spectators, and members of the Spanish Royal Family love to visit the theater. The idea of creating a theater especially for the royal family's entourage belongs to Queen Isabella II. The magnificent theater building, in the shape of an irregular hexagon, was built by the architects Antonio Lopez Aguado and Custodio Moreno. The main facade of the building faces the East Square, while the smaller rear facade overlooks Isabella II Square. Many great artists of that time took part in the creation of the interior of the theater, including Bravo, Techeo and Lucar. The inauguration of the Royal Theater took place on Queen Isabella's birthday, October 10, 1850. The opening was marked by the premiere of Donizetti's La favorita, in which many famous artists of that era were involved. In 1863, Giuseppe Verdi came to the theater, and the Spanish premiere of his opera The Force of Destiny took place here. Since 1925, the theater was closed for reconstruction, its reopening took place in 1966 year. From 1991 to 1997, the theater was rebuilt into an opera hall with an area of 1,430 sq. m. The interiors and facades of the building were refurbished. During its existence, the Royal Theater of Madrid has hosted almost all famous opera singers on its stage.
