Salmov Palace, also known as the Small Schwarzenberg Palace, is one of the most beautiful classical buildings in Prague.

The palace was built on the site of the group houses that previously belonged to the Grad police officers. Initially, the project of the building in the Baroque style was carried out by the Italian architect K. Fontan. However, the project was never realized.

In 1796, the buildings were taken over by Archbishop V. Florentan, who immediately began construction of the palace designed by architect F. Pavicek. Construction lasted from 1800 to 1810. The Archbishop ordered a residential building with apartments for employees.

In 1811, Joseph of Schwarzenberg took over the palace, who included it in the ensemble with the neighboring palace.

After the end of the Second World War, Mrs. A. Pecoldova – the heiress, a member of the Schwarzenberg family, tried to return the palace, but her attempts were unsuccessful.

In 2000, the Schwarzenberg Palace was transferred to the National Gallery.
