The construction of the palace was carried out in a place where previously there was a residential quarter, consisting of five houses with extensions, made in the Gothic style. The idea for the construction belonged to Count Michael Oswald Thun. The architect of the project was J. Mate, who designed a three-storey palace complex with an inner courtyard, made in the classical Roman Baroque style. Due to a disagreement with Count Martinitz – the owner of a neighboring building, the construction time was delayed. However, the count was forced to reconcile, as the emperor Leopold intervened in the disagreement, supporting the project of building the palace. Today the palace belongs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We also recommend reading Archbishop's Palace in the Czech Republic, Prague spa Topic: Tuscany Palace in the Czech Republic, Prague spa. |
