The bridge was built around 60-40 BC AD According to sources, the architect of the project was Lucius Cestius – brother of Gaius Cestius. The bridge connects the island of Tiberina with the urban area of Trastevere. In 370 AD. the bridge has been restored. In 1888-1892, large-scale construction work was carried out here in connection with the sewerage. In the 15th century, the bridge was named after the church of St. Bartholomew located on the island.
