Temple of the Dioscuri in Italy, Rome resort
Rating: 8,8/10 (2049 votes)  The Temple of the Dioscuri, also known as the Temple of Castor and Pollux, is one of the oldest temples in the Roman Forum. The temple was built in 484 BC AD on the occasion of the victory over King Tarquinius. Upon completion of construction, it was consecrated in honor of the twins Castor and Pollux – sons of the god Jupiter. In 117 BC. Lucius Caecilius Metellus Dalmatic carried out reconstruction work in the temple. In the 1st century A.D. the temple was renovated by order of Tiberius. Columns of the Corinthian order have survived to this day, reaching a height of 15 meters, which are called the Three Sisters. Near the temple you can see the Yuturna spring and the altar. According to legend, Pollux and Castor watered their horses in this spring before bringing the news of the victory over the Etruscans to Rome.
