The Jumaya Mosque is the main temple of the Muslim religion of Plovdiv.

The construction of the mosque was carried out in 1363-1364 on the site of the ancient temple of St. Petka Tarnovskaya. In the middle of the 15th century, the mosque was destroyed, and the present building was built in its place. The structure of the building reflects the influence of the ancient Bulgarian and Byzantine architecture techniques. The nine domes of this magnificent building were covered with lead plates.

The luxurious interior of the mosque is decorated with wall paintings from the 18th - 19th centuries, consisting of plant compositions - flowers, branches and garlands, framing small medallions, in which you can observe quotes from the Koran .

The Jumaya Mosque is one of the oldest religious buildings in the Balkans during the Ottoman Empire.
