Plaza de Espana is a square located in the Campo Marzio district, in the central part of Rome.
The square got its name from the Spanish embassy located on it ... The area has the shape of two unequal triangles. To the north of the square is the Trinita dei Monti church and the Spanish Steps, in front of which is the Barcaccia fountain. The fountain was made in the Baroque style in 1627-1629. The author of the project was the architect Bernini. The fountain got its name due to its shape, made in the form of a boat. The fountain was built to commemorate the flood that occurred in 1598.
In 1620, the Palace of Spain was built in the southern part of the square, in front of which is the"Column of the Immaculate" raquo; created in honor of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854.
