Donau-Auen is the largest national park in Austria, located in Lower Austria. The area of the park is 93 square kilometers, it stretches from Vienna to the border with Slovakia. It is one of the most valuable parks in Central Europe. It was founded on October 27, 1996. Donau-Auen is 38 kilometers long, and the park is 4 kilometers wide at its widest point. The total area is currently more than 9300 hectares, of which about 65% are coastal forests, 15% are meadows, and about 20% are water bodies.

The reserve has more than 700 species of various plants, more than 30 species of mammals and more than 100 species of birds. In addition, the park is home to about 13 species of amphibians, 50 species of fish and 8 species of reptiles. Among the characteristic inhabitants of the reserve, one can distinguish the crested newt, European sea turtle and beavers. In total, the park is home to over 5,000 animals. The park also has a very diverse flora - more than 800 plant species grow here, including valuable species of orchids.

The park hosts excursions, thematic seminars, meetings of professionals and nature lovers. The central information point of the reserve is located in the Orth castle. For outdoor enthusiasts, the park has a large cycling trail that starts in Passau.
