The Monastery of the Assumption of Our Lady is located on Mount Zion, near the Zion Gate. This is an ancient German Benedictine abbey. The first Byzantine basilica was built here under Bishop John II in 415 AD. It was called Holy Zion and was dedicated to the Passover Last Supper. Two centuries later, the basilica was destroyed.

Also in the crypt of the temple   you can see the sculpture of the Virgin Mary, reclining on a stone. Above the sculpture, on the canopy, Jesus Christ is depicted, calling his mother into the kingdom of heaven.

The medallions surrounding the dome depict female Old Testament images: Eve, Jael, Judith, Miriam, Esther, and also Ruth. The stone on which the Mother of God rested is surrounded by six altars donated by countries such as Hungary, the USA, Venezuela, the Republic of Ivory Coast, Austria and Brazil.

The apostles and saints are depicted on the altars, and the main altar dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the surviving frescoes you can see images of the Ascension of the Mother of God. The pillar under the altar is part of the pillar,
